Frequently Asked Questions
Can two people float?
This is a solo treatment. I have created a treatment room to the rear of my property which contains one tank.
When should I not float?
We advise you delay your float session if you have recently dyed your hair, had a spray tan or used self tan or had a tattoo. The chemicals from hair dye and self tan can impair the filtration system in the tank and the salty water could make a new tattoo very uncomfortable. Do not attend your session if you are under the influence of illegal substances of alcohol. Avoid floating if you have any open wounds, have recently experienced diarrhoea or vomiting or been diagnosed with an infectious disease.
I am Claustrophobic, will I be able to float?
The thought of floating may seem daunting but the tank has a large lid which can be left open along with soothing music and calming lighting. Please let us know of your concerns when booking and we will try our best to accommodate you.
Is the pod hard to get in and out of?
If you have trouble getting in and out of a standard bath then it might be a problem for you. The bottom of the bath is slippy and you need to take your time entering and exiting the pod. If you are worried about this, feel free to bring someone with you to help you - but please let me know about this in advance.
What do I need to bring with me?
Just bring yourself! Towels, shower gel, shampoo, conditioner and hairdryer will be provided. You may want to bring a hairbrush.
When should I arrive for my appointment?
Please arrive 15 minutes before. This is so that we can show you all the features of the room and float pod.
How is the float tank kept clean?
The float tank uses a 1-micron filter system. Hot tubs and swimming pools use a 20–30-micron filter system. To put this into context the tank much cleaner than a hot tub or swimming pool. The pod enters a 15-minute filtration, heating and cleaning cycle before and after each float session. The water goes through a photocatalytic UV cleaner and through the 1-micron filter system several times, meaning you can rest assured that your pod and Epsom salt solution are fresh and clean.
I am worried about falling asleep, could I drown?
It is impossible to drown, even trying to turn onto your side in the tank is impossible due to the 275kg of epsom salts which create optimal buoyancy. Floating has been described as the equivalent of 6-8 hours of sleep so enjoy the rest!
My period has started, can I still attend my float?
If you would comfortably swim in a pool while on your period, then you can float with us. Don’t let mother nature get in the way of valuable self-care, period cramps can feel much less intense while floating also.
Do I float naked?
Ideally yes, this is to reduce any sensory distractions that may come from a swim-suit or shorts. If this makes you really uncomfortable then please feel free to wear your usual swim wear, the more comfortable you are the better experience you will have.
I am pregnant, is it safe to float?
Floating has been proven to have huge benefits for expectant mums. If you have been told you have a high risk pregnancy or you are still concerned please consult your midwife or GP.
I have psoriasis or eczema, can I still float?
Since magnesium is naturally antimicrobial and antibacterial, floating in Epsom salts can help keep minor skin irritations clean. Salt water will irritate broken skin, always consult your dermatologist or GP if you have any concerns before floating.
